Event
Overview
Dine Out for Safety is presented annually by the Southern Arizona
Center Against Sexual Assault. It is the Center's signature
community outreach and fundraising event - an event that unites
local restaurants, businesses, organizations and individuals
in a unique and fun community-wide experience.
In
1997, the Center partnered with Ovens restaurant in its first
annual Dine Out for Safety. The event raised $12,000. In 2007,
Dine Out for Safety included 32 locally-owned restaurants and
cleared more than $80,000 - all of which went directly towards
providing services to survivors of sexual assault and their
families.
The
Restaurants
Participating local restaurants will generously donate up
to 20 percent of their April 16, 2008 sales to support the Center's
mission. They will also make a contribution to the raffle
and will be staffed by Community Hosts who will be selling raffle
tickets to restaurant patrons on the day of the event.
The
Sponsors
Sponsors include businesses and organizations that make cash
or in-kind contributions to underwrite the event's expenses.
Honorary
Chair
The Center is thrilled that Joan Bonvicini will return
as Dine Out for Safety's Honorary Chair for 2008. In 17 years
at the helm of the University of Arizona program, Coach Bonvicini
has guided the Wildcats to eight postseason appearances, including
six NCAA tournament berths and two in the WNIT.
Off
the court, Coach Bonvicini serves as both a mentor and role
model through her work with such as organizations as The Boys
& Girls Club, the Girl Scouts and the Tucson Centers for
Women and Children. Coach Bonvicini, who was named 2006 Woman
of the Year by the Men's Anti-Violence Partnership of Southern
Arizona, will serve as a Community Host and will be featured
in TV and radio spots to promote the event.
Media
Support and Publicity
KMSB - Fox 11 has signed on again as the event's major
network television media outlet for 2008. Cox Communications
will provide cable television support. Clear Channel
will be the event's primary radio sponsor, focusing Dine Out
for Safety promotions on The Mountain (92.9) and KNST (AM790).
In
addition, the Center anticipates media support from many other
local outlets such as AdVision, Tucson's Newspapers,
Tucson Lifestyle and Territorial Newspapers.
Community
Hosts
Community
Hosts commit four hours of their time the evening of the event
(5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.) greeting diners at the participating
restaurants and selling raffle tickets. Community Hosts for
the event typically include community leaders and local celebrities,
University of Arizona athletes and Pan-Hellenic organization
volunteers, Center staff, board members and community volunteers.
Community
Hosts can be individuals who volunteer to help with the event.
Or, businesses, organizations, families or friends can "adopt
a restaurant" for the evening by putting together a
group to serve as Community Hosts at one of the participating
restaurants for the evening.
If
you would like to serve as a Community Host, or if you would
like to put together a group of colleagues and friends to "adopt
a restaurant" for Dine Out for Safety 2008, please contact
the Center by March 21, 2008 to volunteer.
The
Raffle
A
key element of the success of Dine Out for Safety is the event's
community-wide raffle. Raffle prizes, such as resort stays,
theater tickets, works of art, jewelry and spa services, are
donated to the event by businesses and individuals throughout
southern Arizona.
Tickets
go on sale about a month prior to the event, and on the day
of Dine Out for Safety, Community Hosts sell raffle tickets
at the participating restaurants. Raffle prize donors are listed
on the Dine Out for Safety website and in the event program
which is given to every diner at every restaurant.
